Namibia and his Game Species

A great number of endemic game species live in Namibia in free hunting ground; some of them partly occur only in certain areas of the country. Some game species are completely protected and have not to be hunted, how for example African Black Rhino and Hyena Dog. Other kinds are subjected to the protection of species descendant and are huntable only with corresponding CITES-certification. To that appertain Elephant (CITES II), Lion (CITES II), Leopard (CITES II, Cheetah (CITES I), Hartmann's (Mountain) Zebra (CITES II), Crocodile (CITES I) as well as Baboon (CITES I).

Nearly  in whole Namibia can be hunted: Greater Kudu, Oryx (Gemsbok), Steenbok, Duiker, Warthog, Caracal, Black-backed Jackal.

In the Kavango and Caprivi are to be found Hippopotamus, Cape Buffalo, Sable Antelope, Roan Antelope, Tsessebe, Common Reedbuck, Sitatunga, Waterbuck, Red Lechwe, Chobe Bushbuck, Oribi, Sharpe's Grysbok, Southern Impala, Crocodile, Puku and Bushpig.

In  northern  Namibia occur: Giraffe, Burchell's Zebra, Cape Eland and Damara Dik-Dik; in Namibia's northeast: Side-stripped Jackal, Spotted Hyena, Brown Hyena; in the east and in the middle of Namibia: Red Hartebeest; in the  south and  west  of Namibia: Springbok and in the southeast of Namibia the Cape Fox. In rocky regions of  Namibia lives the Klipspringer, but only in meagre occurrence. In western Namibia, mainly in mountainous regions, there is the home of the Hartmann's (Mountain) Zebra.

Isolated rest-populations of Blue Wildebeest are to be found in the east and north of Namibia and also in the Etosha-Nationalpark, in which the  Black-faced Impala occur, too.

Always more and more hunting and game farms boarder their hunting area with high fences, so that the game species in it can not disappear (fenced game proof). This game farms have a size of several of  thousand hectare. Huntable game species are put into this areas, also game species, which  actually do not occur normally in this area of the country or anywhere in this country (Nyala, Blesbok and Black Wildebeest). This game species adapt themselves excellently to the nonlocal circumstances and develop healthy populations. The advantage for the hunter lies on the hand: He can hunt almost on all game species occurring in Namibia and normally he must not change the hunting ranch in alternation.

Remarks of the author: Many hunters do not agree of hunt ethical reasons with this kind of hunting on game farms, that means areas, which are fenced game proof ( high fences, called in German "Gatterjagd") or to hunt on game species which are not endemic in Namibia or do not occur in this region. But while hunting providers have such a kind of hunting in their program and while there is no rule in Namibia, which says that this kind of hunting is illegal, therefore I take also this hunting providers in my Hunting Portal Namibia. The decision for booking a hunting journey to such hunting providers will be done by the hunting client at least.
