Hunting- and Guest Farm Düsternbrook
Today: Namibia Huntingsafaris

First and oldest Guest- and Hunting Farm in Namibia, since 1962

Where: It can not be more central! 50 km northwest from the capital Windhoek and 90 km from the international airport Hosea Kutako.
Huntable area: 14.000 ha ( 35.000 acres), northwest from Windhoek. Privat hunting area. Member of Khomas Highland conservancy 200.000 ha ( 500.000 acres)

Game species/Hunting offer Khomas Highland:
Oryx (Gemsbok), Greater Kudu, Hartmann's (Mountain) Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Warthog, Red Hartebeest, Cape Eland, Impala, Springbok, Waterbuck, Baboon and Black-backed Jackal.
Of special Interest: In 1961 there was an outbreak of a severe foot and mouth disease and farmers were not allowed to sell their cattle. In this time, Marga Vaatz, established the first Hunting and Guest Farm Düsternbrook in Namibia. This far sighted and innovative step lead to a new industry in Namibia to the big advantage of the farmers in a country with regular draughts. Today there are more than 200 Guest Farms and Lodges and over 400 Hunting Farms. The hunting operation is today called: Namibia Hunting Safaris.
The farmhouse ( 1908) is on a hill with a breathtaking view on a dry river bed. On the one side of the river, the specie rich Khomas Highland Mountain range, starts and on the other side the eye looses itself in an open African bush savannah. Düsternbrook received several awards in terms of accommodation and food from the Namibian Hotel association (HAN). But you can also look at booking.com rating 7.9/10 or trip advisor 4/5 from more than each 100 clients in terms of food and accommodation. Our rooms, all with bath-ensuite, range from 1 star to 4 star ( own rating as there is no official rating). Double rooms with 3 and 4 star have a terrace, Minibar, Tea/Coffee station ( Nespresso), air condition ( for hot summer month), a hair dryer and free Wi-Fi as well as 24/7 220V ( no noisy generator!! ) The 4 star suite has on top of it a summer and a winter terrace, a kitchenette and a fireplace. 3 rooms have a fantastic view into the dry river bed where you always see some game. All rooms are individually furnished. We are not a restaurant but I think we can offer you a fairly good kitchen. Dinner can be taken alone or together, we have several dining venues, some in African safari style architecture or in cosy colonial style in the main house with a fire place. A small bar, next to the pool, invites for a sundowner before dinner. Our wine, red and white, is from South Africa. Our reception, is open the full day. Here you can always get a good coffee, cappuccino or other refreshing drinks...and of course free Wi-Fi. As electrical engineer I like technology that works: so apart from solar energy, we have one Wi-Fi antenna and two cell phone antenna practically covering the yard all the rooms.
Too much luxury? No, we like to take care of your family members, so that they can enjoy their time here even if they do not go with you on the hunt. We offer several activities: 1.a cheetah and a leopard drive,2. a game drive, even with hippo, sable and other rare animals, 3.a scenic mountain drive in the morning and 4. horse riding. Further more we have well signposted hiking trails from 1 to 5 hrs and a big pool ( 6x 12 m) under palm trees and an info centre. From here the more and more popular Khomas Highland Hiking Trail starts over several days ( 4 and 6 days) in back pack and slack pack option and certified by the south African green flag accreditation which guarantees a minimum quality level. If you hunt 5 or more days and you have a bit more time we offer you 3 days free accommodation in our central holiday apartment in Swakopmund at the coast. To get there is no problem at all as we organise transfer for you. Costs Euro 60.00 there an back. Swakopmund is a fairly small town but offers several exciting activities for example an excursion into the dunes, a boat trip to see dolphins, seals and even may be whales, a flight to world famous Sossusvlei, good restaurants a fresh sea breeze. Anything can be easily reached by foot ( maximum 10 minutes): the beach, the restaurants and city centre. Pick-up of activities at your doorstep. By the way even to Windhoek a shopping tour, sight seeing or a visit to good restaurants can be easily arranged. We can also help for any further travel arrangement in Namibia. Further information you will find by clicking either on the Hunting logo or the Guest Farm logo on the left side or the  internet addresses on the right side.

We invite you to be our guest, may be something new?
